Devotees flocked in big numbers to be part of the 3rd Mahakumba Abhishekam Pooja at the Sri Siva Subramanya Swami temple in Nadi yesterday.

This five-day pooja (prayer) is carried out once in every 12 years. The first was held in 1994 and then 2006.

This pooja Kumbhabhishekam is believed to recharge the spiritual power of the deity and the kumba (temple tower) with the same divine power as the deity.

One of the spectacular moments was when a helicopter was used to shower the flowers when all the priests were all stationed on various temple towers.

Chief priest Anand Gurukkal said it was a rare opportunity because it takes place once in 12 years.

TISI Sangam Fiji secretary general Damend Gounder said, “The history of our Siva Subramaniya Swami Kovil dates back to some 100 years. We are not only celebrating the 3 rd Maha Kumbahishekam, but also the centennial accomplishment of Murgan devotion in Nadi.”

Devasthanam Board chairman Gandhi Mestry said, “Since the first Maha Kumbabishekam, the Kovil has come a long way in the development of various structures and other developments and this was possible due to the contribution of devotees and enthusiastic workers.”
