A record number of more than 6,000 devotees have gathered at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi where the 3rd Mahakumbabhi-shekam prayers are being held today.
Mahakumbabhi-shekam is a Hindu temple ritual that is believed to synergize and unite the mystic powers of the temple’s god and goddesses.
TISI Sangam President Sada Siwan Naicker says the centenary celebration and pooja or prayers started last week and today the closing ceremony of the pooja is being celebrated with a massive crowd of about 6,000 devotees.
Naicker says this is a proud achievement for Sangam as the pooja takes place once in every 12 years and there are very few people who have witnessed the 3 celebrations that were held in the 12 year gaps.
He says the first celebration took place in 1994 and then again in 2006.
The highlight of the celebrations was a helicopter that flew directly above the temple and dropped flowers on thousands of devotees at the temple in Nadi.
He says 12 priests from India have come to be part of the celebration and it is being attended by numerous people from overseas as well.
